April 2021

An Ottawa Relief Drive to help victims of the La Soufriere Volcano Eruption on the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been organized.

Falling ash and pyroclastic flows have destroyed crops, livelihoods and contaminated water reservoirs.

Scientists warn that eruptions could continue for days or even weeks.

Clouds of hot ash balloon up to at least 20,000 feet into the air, blanketing much of the island in ash and causing water and electricity outages.

As of April 13, 2021,
🤝🏾 Between 16,000 to 20,000 people have been evacuated from the northern region of the island
🤝🏾 Several thousand people are staying at shelters and need food, water, cots and other necessary emergency provisions.
🤝🏾 Some communities are experiencing long line-ups to access water, while other communities have not yet received water.

The emergency needs are growing and all support and donations are welcomed.
